Merry xmas all,

wonder if some of you folks here could enlighten me as to the best places in South Africa to hour build for the CPL? I'm not solely interested in cost - albeit it is important :) - but quality of aircraft, types and area in general!

Ta much
Budgie

p.s. don't all get too p*ssed at new year!

Greetings Budgie -
Great place to build PIC time. The Johannesburg area will be a good gateway to cool places to fly to. There are many flightschools (aka renters) in the J'burg area. Start withCentral Flying AcademyThey are out of Grand Central, next to Jo'burg CentraL business district. Furthermore, Lanseria, Wonderboom, Rand and Johannesburg International airports are all within 10 minutes flying time from Grand Central. Flying northbound for a couple hours will put you in the most beautiful scenery in the world. With your B'tish pounds, you'll have the best time of your life. You might not even want to go back to the UK after your hours are logged... Hope that gave you some good info.

Budgie

Are you doing the JAA modular route?

43 Air School in Port Alfred run a structured 150-hour training program for JAA modular students. Have a look at www.43airschool.com under courses.

The Eastern Cape is a fantastic area to fly in, beautiful scenery and a nice climate. The school has superb facilities and a very good reputation.

Good luck
Dutchie

Yeah I'm doing the modular route Dutchie.
Hoping to do the CPL and IR straight after.
Cheers for the info guys! Can't believe the value of the Rand against the pound at the moment. Seems like too good an opportunity to miss.

Cheers BUDGIE

Hi Budgie.

South Africa is probably the best place to hour build because of the great climate, and the fact that South Africa has based their system on the JAR system. Possibly one of the best schools (From my research) is Flight Training College South Africa (FTC-SA). I’m hopefully off there next November for Integrated training. Visit them at www.ftc-sa.com. The good thing about them is that they have JAR approval to ATPL level, and can provide structured hour building.

Also, if your considering the modular route based purely on the high cost of the integrated route, then FTC-SA also do an ATPL Integrated course for less than £30k, including accommodation, flights, medicals, 3 meals a day, the works (Not bad eh???) Check them out.
