It seems our flag carrier has snubbed Darwin again, yesterday announcing a cut in Bali services from 3 to 2 a week. makes you wonder, the government is trying to attract more foreign carriers into the territory and our own national airline is cutting flights, there are 1000 less seats into darwin internationally than this time last year. you would have though the direct denpasar service would have been one of qf's more profitable routes.

disappointing qf...very disappointing.

 The aircraft could be put to better use elsewhere

you know how hard it is to get seats on international flights out of DRW !

Yep, QF Yield Mgmnt, and Senior Mgmnt are so incompetent that they'd cut back on profitable flights just to give Darwinians & Northern Territorians the sh!ts.

If you recall an earlier post of mine you will see that the figure is that Darwin capacity is down by 40% as to this time last year.

The airport and NT Gov have employed a marketing dude to try to reverrse the flow. It certainly hits the tourism sector, not to mention making it even harder to fly out of Darwin.

Probably the most attractive option ex Darwin is Royal Brunei which as you know hubs out of Brunei and you can go anywhere in the world.

That Garuda flight to Bali isn't to bad but the scoth and cokes are bloody strong...

Expect DPS flights will be taken over by Australian Airlines early next year - as well as other "leisure" destinations such as HNL.

At least Qantas gives you the pleasure of direct services (and two destinations at that)!!!! Look at Adelaide... we have stop up there to get to Singapore, let alone go anywhere else.

I guess whilst ever the NT Government continues to sponsor every Virgin flight to the Territory, you can expect the flag carrier to be a little peeved!
Bali is a low yield route as Garuda has really cut fares to earn more foreign currency.
Expect more Brisbane to Bali direct in the near future.

"Expect more Brisbane to Bali direct in the near future."

Why? In anticipation of a Virgin start on this route???

Can't really see your problem Apacau, okay so you have to transit via another city to your destination - big deal. At least you guys can still get packages ex ADL to SIN & beyond eg via MEL any day of the week.

Darwin has the 'pleasure' of direct services to SIN & DPS mainly due the geographical location making it quite difficult to go via anywhere else to these destinations.

In DRW you don't have access to the discounted economy seats enjoyed by people in just about every other major Australian city. The link below to the holiday website of Skippy illustrates this with packages to SIN avail from PER/BNE/MEL/ADL/SYD/HBA/LST/ CBR with Darwin excluded.

Forget looking at any QF internet 'deals' ex DRW overseas because there are none. These special fares are restricted to those from ADL/BNE/CNS/MEL/PER/SYD.

Ahh, perhaps think again. Don't confuse the geographical closeness between Darwin & Bali with the price of your ticket. Believe me, the price difference is negligible if at all.

I was advised several years ago by a Qantas sales buffoon that Qantas was doing Australia a favour by serving a low yield market at all. Bali was the market in question.

It is time they realised that the SLF on their leisure network are taking time (in many cases) off from flying for business on their higher yield runs.

Wanna be careful Ratsan - the punters may just find out what real in-flight service should be and look out!!

HNL is down to 3 flights a week now and Air Canada is having a field day with their daily 763s - a great deal of our market is into HNL and Asia and the SQ/AC/TG/UA/OS sales are going through the roof and Star Alliance points even (very temporarily) with the hole in domestic Australia are becoming more and more important and sought after.

Tried clearing a waitlist with SQ lately?? Absolutely brilliant! With QF, it is so difficult you can't find a head that will talk back with anything but company line.

Methinks the inertia of the aftermath of our dear departed Ansett may be about to awaken the Lion who is going to bite the roo firmly on the bum.

The lack of care to potential passengers may well spill over into the way QF staff are treated by management, and that is the best way to produce lack lustre service - there is no razors edge to make a staff member try harder. Adequate will suffice.

The excellent staff are still there, but buried by a management regime that puts them in constant fear of being the next for the accountants knife.

Big - profitable - but oooooh so vunerable.

Best all
