May 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy's efforts to build a fleet of unmanned vessels are faltering because the Pentagon remains wedded to big shipbuilding projects, according to some officials and company executives, exposing a weakness as sea drones reshape naval warfare.

Perhaps they should outsource to Ukraine, they have the expertise and need the cash.

But then which US company will make any money? producing drones Ukrainian style will only bring in cents not zillions of $$$$

It depends on how many you make/export.

Didn't Mr Ford start out trying to make his product as cheaply as possible (and in only one colour?), and his company did alright for some time.

Because anything maritime related, where you may be a target of it, it may be a target for you, or you may be on ops to support it, is of interest.

true - but he wasn't in the aviation business with those products - the whole aerospace model is based around extremely long and expensive development and production contracts - cheap as chips does nothing for BAe, Boeing, Dassault etc
