Hi

just wondering can I use the P2X hours to upgrade to an ATPL as I have well over the 500 hours of PIC. The only part I'm missing is the Multi pilot hours, night and maybe the IFR hours. On a side note what are the day to day task for a second officer?

thanks

No you can't, a second officer serves as a cruise relief pilot above 20,000 feet. You will spend the majority of your 4-7 years in the position speaking on the radio, doing fuel checks and making bunks. On the positive side you will get lots of time off.

It depends. Ask the authority where you want to get the ATPL. Different countries have different rules.

SO duties....make bunks, get the worst rest, radio work, watch whatever flying skills you have slowly erode away.

it is Out of topic question,

p2x rating is cruise relief pilot rating right ? How about if i have jet engine hours more than 500h, i can do the zftt without basecheck ?

Regarding the OPs original question, P2X counts in full towards a Hong Kong ATPL. However, there is a big caveat. First, you need a P1 rating in a multi crew aircraft registered in Hong Kong. Second, if you are an SO at the employ of CX, you could get fired if you attempt to upgrade your license yourself (rumor is, it has happened).

If these jet hours are P2X, afaik they do not count towards any ZFTT requirements. Even if they did, I do not believe CX or any carrier for that matter in HK currently exempting base training. I could be wrong though, so for those in the know, feel free to correct me.

It's more like trying to upgrade the my own license, the EASA one. Not the HK CAD one. I just don't want to keep revalidate the MEP IR rating each year. At the rate of inflation, it will be a fat chunk of cash amount of money. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but if my IR expired more than 7 year, it will be removed from the license and redo the ATPL exams. Unless if I upgrade to ATPL then it be on the license and only need to renew or revalidate. Feel free to correct my wonky knowledge.

You can keep the ATPL exams valid by doing an IR check once every 7 years. That can be a single engine IR there is no need to ever fly an MEP again.

oh that is true. I have a bit of stilly question but I want to confirm few things with P2X hours. Can you log the instrument hours and night hours when acting as cruise relief pilot? To my knowledge only IR is tag along with the TR. Since P2x is not TR then the hours is not IR hours. Not sure if that is a correct logic here
