Hi all,

Are PPL holders with an EASA license able to do hour-building in the US?

As I recall from the AirLaw, as long as 2/ 3 criteria are met, should be ok. I.e. License, Airspace, and Aircraft. 2 of these should match.

And is it worth it? Cheaper? I would assume that hotels or accommodation would also have to be factored in.

Any experiences on this?

If you have an EU-Issued EASA licence you can actually get a full FAA PPL. If you have a non-EU licence (EASA or otherwise) you can still apply for a Part 61.75 'piggyback' licence instead.

There are loads of recommendations for time building in north America and Europe on the ATPL Network (https://discord.gg/theatplnetwork) discord server.

Transport Canada offers a foreign licence validation certificate which is similar to the FAA’s 61.75 certificate. AC No 400-003 (https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/reference-centre/advisory-circulars/advisory-circular-ac-no-400-003).

Why not split your hours across both countries? Also, if you enter the US under the visa waiver program, you may fly yourself into Canada and back.
