I am soon going for my first PPL medical ,class 2, I think. 2 years ago I had a general checkup and the Doc found traces of protein in my urine sample.I was sent to a specialists, had x-rays and was given the all clear. Will this go against me in my upcoming test and will I have to go thru this whole procedure again?

That happened to me once. I went for a medical after a 5 K run and traces of protein showed up in the urine test. I explained to the Doc that I just ran 5 K and he said that that was not un-common after excercise . It's been about 5 years and it hasen't happened since.

Go for your medical. Should something show up it's best to have it checked out.

I think it would depend on how much blood was found. I regularly had 'traces' in my urine samples but the AME and my GP dismissed them.

(Mine was a PPL class 2 too.)

Before you pitch up to the medical be nice to your body.
For at least a few days prior to the medical, drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and eat well. Protein in the urine without a good explanation means the kidneys aren't doing their job.
Trace proteins in the urine used to be a fail point for the UK Class one. Not any more. If you get greater than "trace"readings, you will be asked to drink a lot of water and have another go if possible. If you can't do that, you will be asked to see a Dr and have a go in a week's time (or so). If still greater than "trace" you can forget the Class 1 untill it is sorted.

Also if you are worried you can buy urinalysis sticks from a pharmacy and check it yourself. I doubt very much that you will have a problem, drink water and dont be too active the night before as that effects it as well.

Thanks for the reassurance .I passed the medical no probs and was informed that traces of protein without any other indications of say kidney disease, would not be a fail point. That said ,my sample was negative anyway.
