Apologies if this is vintage or posted before but I've never seen a rat deployment that wasn't a major emergency.

Presume the buzzing noise as it went past was the RAT and not something on the A30?

May have been a test flight. I've done that on an A300.

In this case the linked video narrative refers to a Heathrow to Seattle flight turning back. The source seems quite reliable. :ok:

FWIW with my Mr Picky of Pickyville hat on I'll point out the Aviation Herald piece states:
The aircraft landed safely on runway 09L about one hour after departure.
The facebook footage provided in the OP shows a landing on 27L......
