Up to now these would have been considered TS by most nations…

Today we announced a new capability: bistastic imaging. Helped along by the invaluable support of our partners @DARPA, we've started launching and operating SAR satellites in tandem pairs flown in precise formation in order to simultaneously image a target.

There are many applications of bistatic imaging, from stifling radar jamming, to deriving 3D models, to identifying the heading and velocity of moving objects (both on land and at sea). The Air Force is funding our development of moving target indication.

While we're still testing this product internally before releasing it commercially, we are already operating our first tandem pair today and plan to bring this capability to the commercial market later this year.

Historically, multistatic SAR constellations, like Airbus' TanDEM-X, have cost many hundreds of millions of dollars to develop and many years to operationalize. We're going to make it possible to field these kinds of systems for a fraction of the cost and time.

In fact, in the near future, our whole commercial constellation will be a proliferated network of bistatic pairs of SAR satellites (the next pair is already built and launching soon).
