Very interesting. When I was on a Boeing 757 conversion course at Seattle in Feb/Mar 1983, Richard Curry, the B52 Boeing pilot was my sim/flt instructor for the course. He told us about his B52 incident and I remember thinking it sounded like a very dodgy situation!

That picture was in one of my college textbooks way back when. I remember we figured the crew flew around a while looking for a runway without any crosswind component.
Then again, lots of options to control yaw with asymmetrical thrust (ala the Sioux City DC-10).
