Maybe nothing notable, but interested to know why.

It was cancelled on Friday (2 days before), passengers told it was for "mechanical" reasons. Same plane I think (corrected - not the same plane).

I would hazard a guess that some form of mechanical reason caused the delay

Interesting that Alliance has started doing international flying for mainline.

Well, it wasn't a delay, it was a divert - it was already in criuse at 33,000ft then it abruptly returned to BNE.

Been doing it for awhile across the ditch, and announced last week that DRW-SIN is back with the jungle jets operating

Circuitous route to avoid a tropical cyclone, requiring a fuel stop?

Payload issues. Needed to tech stop in Townsville to uplift more fuel. Also had an amended routing from YBTL to AGGH to avoid passing through the tropical low.

Another week, another variation of divert back to BNE. This must be getting expensive for Qantas!

"Toilets didn't work"

Also for the passengers. I talked to two who had been on the divert back to BNE flight last Sunday (the said reason given was "safety") , and then on the next day the divert-via-Townsville flight (understood as due to "the plane is too heavy" and needed to avoid the developing cyclone - which SolAir happily flew over the same day), with baggage offloading thrown in.

On today's flight is a business partner. All this means expenses for the passengers too.

So the last 5 flights:
19th - cancelled
21st - divert back to Brisbane ("safety" reasons given - px)
22nd - divert via Townsville, baggage offloaded
26th - succesful flight!
28th - divert back to Brisbane ("toilets don't work")

I'm booked on 2nd! :(

The aircraft is only fifteen years old. Should be fine. :ok:

I wouldn't send an E190 to a third world pacific island with no engineers, staffed with outsourced third party ground staff who don't speak English well. With no help at the other end, air turn backs will be common place for even minor issues.

The aircraft type comes into its own when it is flown between major ports where competent staff can attend to the various niggles throughout the day. The jungle jets are known to need a CTL-ALT-DELETE quite often for spurious warnings.

Right aircraft, wrong route in my opinion.

Off topic a little, but QF94 LAX-MEL diverted to SYD today due to fog. I know freight is always an issue as is the westbound leg in general, but is the 380 not capable of that route and hold SYD as an alternate?

An alternate was likely not carried

Even for forecast fog?

Even for forecast fog?

Depends when the fog appeared on the TAF. If it appeared after they’d already left LAX, then there’s not really much they can do about it is there.
