I sent an email to Transport Canada asking if I could be medically certified class 2/3 with marginally over-limits eyesight correction and substantially worse uncorrected vision (20:400) than their requirements (20:200) and got this response:

--------------------

Mr Crawford,

Canada is in the process of removing the diopteric limits from the vision
standards, so provided you can correct your distant vision to 6/9 ( 20/30
) in each eye separately and 6/6 using both eyes, then we would consider
you fit for all medical categories

Sincerely

XXXX

Does anyone know anything about this change? Is it official? Has it been announced? And does it mean the uncorrected vision requirement is going away too (since that's what I'm worried about in the first place!).

This is excellent news for me anyway. Under the current rules I'm technically ineligible for a PPL medical never mind the ATCO one I want.
