Inbox: "Ellsworth AFB B-1, Aircraft 85-0085, crashed on the runway during landing. 4 ejected, one in the ER with back issues. They are all okay. Believed to be due to icy and foggy conditions. My buddy from the flightline told me that they tried to keep them from flying this morning. It is VERY foggy out right
now. Which is instantly freezing to the ground."

Theres audio of the ground controlers going around. Sounds like it landed with an engine on fire. Crew punched out while it was still rolling down the runway, theres posts floating around of what they claim to be the ground controllers calling out the emergency services

"We have a B1 that landed, has an active fire and an explosion" was the quote. Apparently it was actually a police frequency

Reported photo of the crash doing 5he rounds - note lack of fog, which is evident in the TV video above. Which raises doubts as to the photo.

I am getting all nostalgic for the days when METAR was one of the first few posts in any accident thread.
Thank you, airman1900. :ok::)

I must be well out of date; I thought the B1 had an escape pod where all 4 crew members ejected together, at least that's what Rockwell's test pilots told us when they were scheduled to display it at Farnborough; they used a pair of F-111s from Upper Heyford to practice their display routine which also had escape pods.
It was great fun vectoring the F-111s round a visual circuit at 500kts with wings swept dodging all the local civil aircraft and we only had one airprox during the whole thing.

The first 3 B-1As had a 4-person escape module. It was used once after a test flight went wrong; a test pilot was killed and two others were seriously injured when the parachute system malfunctioned. The fourth B-1A and all B-1Bs were fitted with ejector seats.
