As the title suggest, I would like to have some insight, if given a choice as a First Officer of A320 between Hong Kong Airlines and Etihad Airways, which one would you pick and why?

My view, faster command prospect upgrade and slightly higher salary in HKA (ofc after deducting taxes and house). Etihad is more establish and good environment for my wife and son, and also slightly cheaper and more thungs to do in UAE, but really I think command prospect updgrade is close to non existent.

Which one?

Is this really a serious question? If you have the mins for Etihad then you must have been around long enough to know HKA is a crap hole.

320 HX vs 320 Mid East? Easy choice would be going to HK"E" or CX over AD if you enjoy your sanity and sleep. Otherwise go enjoy the middle of the night flying that the 320 boys/girls do out of the desert.

CX is a dumpster fire with worse conditions every few years. What is it now COS 18? What is that the 4th change in 15 years? It's getting worse not better in HK.

I will live in Dubai or Abu Dhabi any day over Hong Kong. At least in Abu Dhabi you get a normal size apartment or house, not 400 sq feet in Discovery Bay.

So you’re happy to spend 3 hours unpaid on the bay waiting for a BEKOL slot? How about doing 20 mainland turns in a month without any productivity pay?

I’m waiting for CX to run PVG with integrated CAN!

Best thing about ME carriers is that they don’t do these pathetic multi sectors.

400 sq ft? Who’s affording it these days? Better off leaving the family in the home country and going into shared accommodation. The only way to save money!

I don't disagree with Dubai but the recent stories coming out Abu aren't exactly roses on the Airbus.

By living in a 400ft2 in Discovery Bay says a lot of how disconnected from HK reality you were...

I'm sorry can you explain my "disconnection" from reality?

Are you saying I am right or wrong?

My piece of advice: stay away from both of them. Because they have one thing in common, authoritarian political systems which grant no employee rights whatsoever. You can and you will be fired every day.

I have seen HK and the UAE and I felt a little better in the sand.

Favorite expat enclave for foreigners working in the city. Most of the expats are English speakers from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the US and other English-speaking countries.
Discovery Bay is a residential area popular among foreigners. Expats wanting to live among fellow expats, have quick access to the city, and yet live in a quiet and natural area find a haven in Discovery Bay.

I don't say you're right or wrong. I know many expats never left Tung Chung or Century Link in 10 years. Discovery bay is an isolated, exclusive area for expats and therefore high prices. If you choose to live more locally you can find great places in other areas well connected. In the end is your personal choice, some like the sand, some like the snow, and some like humidity and heat.

Have you ever lived locally? I have and I have it difficult to communicate with security, people within the complex stare at you, or give you dirty looks, and overall a very unpleasant experience.

If the idea of living in a cupboard, breathing filthy air in one of the most expensive, crowded and now boring cities in the world, whilst working for an employer that will treat you like dirt, defiantly consider it. If that's not enough the flight delays into China, constant roster changes, sitting around for hours waiting for a slot at both ends of your flight and extremely busy airspace should help. Consider also the terrible health care, you will NEVER own a property, food costs a bomb and half the city hates foreign Pilots then go to HK ! It ain't what it used to be, living was the best thing I ever did.
