I've just come across a tantalising reference to "the longest single-engined helicopter rescue ever" in which a NZ pilot flew presumably from NZ to Campbell Island (about 370Nm south of Invercargill) and returned a casualty there which he must have done on fuel loaded upon departure from NZ.

Can anyone fill in the details or point to a resource on this?

This has some details, it seems he took the fuel with him in the cabin.
