Is he the Indian chap in charge of Qatar Air?
I’m sure he will be missed….

Capn Rex Havoc he is Qatari.

I used to like his leadership but that went down the drain after the A350 issue. That was a sorry mess and I wouldn't be surprised if that played a big role is his leaving.

Interesting that after 27 years of liking his own voice not one mention in the press release and sudden 05NOV departure. Read into that what you will..

Repaying the withheld "voluntary" paycut would be a good start.

i can safely bet that it will never happen. The stolen past is gone, now we can only look ahead. It is evident that they fear RIA, they are trying to get as much shares of the Saudi market as they can before it starts.. but i see a huge number of people jumping ship if they do not improve roster/conditions. It will be a tsunami

Will he lose the (ludicrous) HE honorific?

How did he get that in the first place?

One wonders ? Clearly a ludicrous character with bullying and autocratic tendencies . Surely an embarrassment for the airline and Qatar.
As for leadership, very few profitable years for the airline and with limitless funds should have done better, and yes he is born an Indian , possibly a name change and some sort of Qatari sponsorship ( adoption) ? . Who knows , but the company should benefit from his departure

Yup - an international company I had dealings with had to do a due diligence on everyone involved in an acquisition and that came up in the background check.

It explains a lot of his behaviour - he had to 'out-Qatari' every Qatari as if he ever gave way on anything, or acted reasonably and balanced, then a Qatari would claim that if he had been a real Qatari, then he wouldnt have 'given in'. Even in private I have witnessed him being staggeringly arrogant and rude with very senior executives in the aviation industry - particularly when he calls a meeting over 'our problems' only to be shown that the fault lay with QA. One particularly memorable episode involved his team shipping a large component from Doha QA stores to the USA, only to find they didnt send any of ther rigs or the tooling and that the component had been cannibalised and was unuseable. Of course, this was still 'our fault'. Never one to let reality get in the way of a deflection and passing blame on to others.

That said, he built a good airline on the face of it, but once under the skin, you realise its the same middle eastern service rubbish

Among other reasons, Akbar Al Baker is also leaving for health reasons.

Jennie Blond, does Akbar Al Baker have a terminal illness? Thought it was just a rumor but sad if true...

I hope it's nothing serious. I must admit I'm sad to see him go from an entertainment point of view, he was certainly forthright in his views at least you know where you stand with him. He was like a Michael O'Leary of the Middle East!

I'd prefer not to directly answer the question slightly above. But my lack of comment probably gives you sufficiency to read between the lines.

Very sad to know.... I used to think the man would live to 100 with the amount of energy he used to have. Time waits for no one.
