I thought the doors were made together with the fuselage, and that's why they only fit the same fuselage they came with. At least that's what I was told about the R22 doors

Robinson did outsource the doors, but because of the poor quality, they decided to insource it. That was even before the R44. AFAIK this has not changed.

I heard a little old lady made them in a shed until she retired.

I don’t know her name; she was always referred to as ‘Er in doors.

It’s a deliberate misquote of a well-known British colloquialism.

'er indoors - was originally how a Cockney man may refer to his stay-at-home wife.
