Am researching the Empire Air Navigation School which was based at Shawbury from Sep 44 - Jul 49. My first port of call is The Nat Archives at Kew to look at the Operations Record Book. But if anyone has any personal information, and in particular photos of EANS Lancaster 'Aries I', Lincolns 'Aries II' and 'Aries III', and Lancaster B1/FE NX676, which they would be willing to share, I would be very interested to hear from them. You can reach me at: [email protected]

If I recall they get a passing mention in Nevil Shute's novel "No Highway" ! :)

If you haven't already done it, I suggest contacting Shawbury direct. I think they might have quite a bit on the project..

Thanks for the Nevi Shute pointer, which I'll try! And yes, I'm in contact with Shawbury.

I am sure that you will already have Richardson’s Man Is Not Lost (https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=22608679084&searchurl=an%3DRichardson%2B%26sortby%3D17%26tn%3DMan%2Bis%2 Bnot%2Blost&cm_sp=snippet-_-srp1-_-title1) but there it is in the unlikely event you haven’t. Schofield and Nesbit’s Arctic Airmen (https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=31543659032&searchurl=sortby%3D17%26tn%3DArctic%2BAirmen&cm_sp=snippet-_-srp1-_-title1) describes some early forays into high latitude navigation. Man may not have been lost but he must have had his fingers crossed.

It's only the most fleeting mention as part of the novel's plot. But as a fan of Nevil Shute's books, I'd recommend it as an enjoyable read.

Have just finished reading Man is Not Lost, which prompted me to look further at EANS!
