Am researching the Empire Air Navigation School which was based at Shawbury from Sep 44 - Jul 49. My first port of call is The Nat Archives at Kew to look at the Operations Record Book. But if anyone has any personal information, and in particular photos of EANS Lancaster 'Aries I', Lincolns 'Aries II' and 'Aries III', and Lancaster B1/FE NX676, which they would be willing to share, I would be very interested to hear from them. Schofield and Nesbit’s Arctic Airmen (https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=31543659032&searchurl=sortby%3D17%26tn%3DArctic%2BAirmen&cm_sp=snippet-_-srp1-_-title1) describes some early forays into high latitude navigation. Man may not have been lost but he must have had his fingers crossed.

It's only the most fleeting mention as part of the novel's plot. But as a fan of Nevil Shute's books, I'd recommend it as an enjoyable read.
