How we suffered in our portable heliport building near the threshold of 25 when the 727s wound up their engines to depart west. Sounded like F-111 engine runs at Amberley.

They were a whisper up the front in F or J class at 35k feet. As a former LAME my ears are still ringing. Those and F28 were ear destroyers. F27s were not much fun either.

You're right about the F28s. No one seemed to be too worried about noise abatement as I waited for the bus to take me to Tech in the late 60s.
On a cold morning in spring the departing F28s could make the air crackle from 5 km away.

What is the aircraft type the journalist is supposed to have said if they had done their research properly and realised the 727 is long gone?🤔
