Back in the day of the Mks 1, 2 and 5 there was an ultrasonic inspection of the various lugs that received the hinge bolts and securing pins for the tail fold. I remember a 706Sqn aircraft losing half of one pin lug when operating off Engadine in about 79. Showed up as a tail fold caption but the cab recovered successfully, ticking off the emergency landing practice on the Fleet Form 10. Cause was a fatigue failure originating at a corrosion pit under the top hat bushes.
