Can anyone remember the length of the Masirah State Railway which ran from the airfield to the beach and jetty? I have Colin Richardson's Excellent book Masirah:Tales from a Desert Island but can't find the basic length of the line!

Looks like 60cm/2ft gauge. Pity it was only diesel powered.
I love NG railways; did you know they once existed in Malta, Cyprus and Mauritius too?

Thank you for the offer OUAQUKGF Ops. My research is actually about NEAF Vulcan dets to Masirah in the 1970s, so I'll pass on the offer of the book (which I've seen on line)

Plenty of copies of the book on a well known 'marketplace' plus one or two dealing with all MOD railways but whereas the Masirah railway ones were from about £7 yesterday they've suddenly shot up to £35 +

Comrades! it's a small world

I was reading this thread this morning - this afternoon we went out with some of Senora A's friends - one of whom did some time in Oman.

I asked her if she'd been to Masirah - "of course" she replied "my late hubby was posted there to work on the base".

"Do you know anything about the railway?"

"Of yes - I've got a piece in my hall......................... "

And here it is

Quite the strangest co-incidence of my whole life.................
