So I'm outside, throwing the ball for the dog and hear an unusual airplane for my area. I look up and it's an Eastern Airlines Boeing 777 (N771KW) coming in on final to GRR (this is not an airport ever frequented by wide-body aircraft). B-777 - Eastern Airlines - Grand Rapids, MI… my curiosity is piqued. I checked the airport departure schedule and it's leaving later this afternoon for Alexandria, Louisiana (AEX) - a Boeing 777 from GRR to AEX on a scheduled flight?

Are these just empty, "dummy" flights to keep their passenger licensing valid?

Perhaps a sports team charter ? I thought that the last iteration of Eastern Airlines foundered before it started, using 737-800's ?

Eastern are still just about in existence, flying a single B772 and a handful of 767s. FR24 shows the OP's flight originating from the FedEx terminal at GRR, so more likely a freight service than a sports charter.
