It looks like a too far aft CG loading at first glimpse...

Wow speculation much. I’d go with high AoA.

Although Russia has plenty of aviation, one does not hear much about floatplane flying over there. Obviously, general aviation is much more restricted but having done lots of airline flying over northern Canada and the US, I was surprised to notice during my multiple airliner crossings of northern Russia, how much fewer lakes there are(in the areas I saw) than the literal hundreds of thousands of lakes that dot the North American landscape. I guess I expected similar.

Looks like a Lake amphibian, or is there a Russian knock-off of Lake seaplanes?
RIP

I think it is a Borey Model A:

Oh dear, I see PPRuNe still doesn't like this well known website. Luckily, there's a work around:

punkalouver,

Your observation is borne out by these very surprising statistics:

That looks like that's the one (makes more sense, too, given location.)

I think it is a Borey Model A:

Yes, AeroVolga Borey RA-3175G (BL018).

Looks suitably watertight. One risk with seaplanes is water in the hull. Does not affect lift off if it is within gross weight but when you lift the nose the water runs to the tail and it is all over. I know of pilots who forgot to pump before take off.
