Haven't see this posted but TK chairman is on his way to Australia for a media event in Melbourne this Friday where he will officially announce the start of IST-SIN-MEL flights "by December", https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/turkish-airlines-istanbul-australia-melbourne-sydney-flights

Good, Some competition needed.
Have heard their service is excellent & modern fleet.

Some not very good reviews on here, however they have an excellent network and IIRC fly to more destinations than anyone else. Might be worth a try if there’s a decent cost saving compared to the competition or if you want a 1 stop connecting flight to an obscure place.

You heard correct. Used them a few times from BKK to various destinations in Europe and never disappointed. The lounges in Istanbul are something else too.

Not to forget that Istanbul is a fantastic city to tour!

Apparently Canberra has blocked the application. How much cash had Dan already stumped up for this one?

Riyadh Air is the next up and coming carrier, chances of getting rights appear zero.

Canberra hasn’t blocked anything, no request for more capacity has been made to the IASC by Turkey beyond the current seven flights a week and Turkey has yet to get fifth freedom rights for flights ex Singapore.
