A good aviating friend of mine, in South Africa, has sent me a couple of photos of the top portion of an aircraft control column, and asked for help in identifying the aircraft type/s to which it would have been fitted. The only information he has been given is a suggestion "... that it may be from an RAF aircraft ...", which is a bit vague and broad-brush! 😂

I accept that it does have that sort of look, doesn't it - 'golden age of British military aviation' - but I haven't a clue where to start with it. For all I know it might not even be British!

Can any of you knowledgeable folks help with identifying it, and what each of the the buttons do? If you are also able to provide an example cockpit photo, or a link to same, showing one of these in-situ, that would be a great addition to the ident.

Many thanks! 👍🏻

RP could stand for Rocket Pod, so I would look for a type that was able to use a rocket pod or had internally mounted rockets such as the F-86D family (pretty sure it's not that type though... only mentioned it as an example of a rocket pod user).

RP = Rocket Projectile (I Think) - as first used in ww2

The switch with the serrated top is probably a guns firing switch. RP is rocket projectile, as noted above, and my guess is that the right-hand circular button fires those. The LH button may be for a cine gun.

My guess is that the stick is from a late WW2 fighter-bomber. Types in service in the early war years (e.g. Hurricane & Spitfire) had spade-grip type sticks. I think this style was later.

I think it might be from a Meteor?

Fly-by-Wife has it - definitely Vampire. Checked against my copy of the T11 Pilots' Notes. Could be various marks, not just 6 or 9.
The SAAF operated the FB5, FB6, T11, and T55.
