Hi has anyone had recent experience of training at Tayside Aviation ? I can't seem to find any recent reviews on here. I was looking at doing CPL/IR training but not part of the Degree program

I've been dealing with tayside for a little over a year now (see my thread on medical issues). They're extremely understanding and to be honest, I'm glad i've been dealing with them. if you can - I highly recommend going to one of their open days. Jodie (the student liason) is very open to calls and meetings. I live local and haven't heard of a person who was dissatisfied with them, yet.

If you are considering Tayside, I'd implore you to visit ACS at Perth. I've trained at both, ultimately finished off all my commercial training with ACS.

ACS are a much bigger school in terms of Fleet & Instructors. In my opinion the fleet at ACS is much better (3 DA42's with a DA42 sim vs 1 Seneca with a generic sim on site at tayside). The fast track course at ACS is also considerably cheaper than the Tayside Degree program. Just from the social media feeds, ACS seem to get a lot more people through commercial training than Tayside.

I'm slightly biased as I finished my training with ACS, but it was a first class school. Friendly staff and instructors, good fleet, good facilities. Call them up and request a tour/meeting with an instructor they are more than happy to facilitate.

I would second mikeindiatango's response. Its definitely worth looking into both of the mas they are both quite high class. I chose tayside as i already had quite a good rapport with them, and they have agreements in place with 2 airlines that I have my eyes on. plus a few other benefits, but I was considering ACS myself. I recently paid a visit there for Perth's air festival.

Shocking. There's a poor lad on fb has paid them £5.5K for an ATPL course starting in May. If tayside's CTKI is reading this please contact me by PM, there's probably something we can do to help the stranded ATPL students through BGS, assuming the UK CAA play ball. We did it before when PPSC went bust, remember them?

I had a 4k deposit to start in January '24. Watching with eager eyes to see what happens. ACS were quite keen to have me onboard when I met with them last time, may be time to re-evaluate their offers again. BGS looks quite good too, thoguh.
Any others that anyone can recommend?

Having spoken to my management team at BGS, we can take on the Tayside modular ATPL theory students at no extra cost to themselves other than exam fees. In other words if they have paid for the full Tayside course they can join BGS wherever they are in their studies, we will not charge anything and we will take them through to the end of ATPL theory for free. BGS are both UK and EASA approved so it opens the option of going for both licences. Distance learning, though, not classroom based, but an effective course none the less. For Tayside students on flying courses we cannot recover money paid in advance to the defunct company but we can help place them with other ATOs through the Wings Alliance which offers both advice on which ATOs to choose and the optional path of the WA supervising their flying training, making sure proper training records are kept etc. I imagine that ACS will pick up most of the flying business but WA will happily act as intermediary if anyone wants us to. Please contact Henry at [email protected] and register with WA at wingsalliance.eu, also free. For those not familiar Wings Alliance is a not-for-profit support community for modular students, and it does not take commissions or back handers from flight schools. This plan requires approval from the UK CAA, who I have emailed this evening, but I would be astonished if they say anything other than 'yes please'.

Alex, Thank you very much for your advice, I've just registered with the wings alliance. While I hope Tayside can be rescued in some form, it's good to see the UK aviation sector coming together to support each other.

Great gesture Alex. I feel dreadful for those affected as a former student. This is usually when people/schools can do what Alex has taken initiative with and come together as an aviation community to try help those affected in any way possible.

I knew Tayside well some years ago and found them to have a good team at the time. But I feel for Lovat, seeing what he built up over many years just collapse.
