A new entry on the New Zealand civil aviation register………

https://www.aviation.govt.nz/aircraft/aircraft-registration/aircraft-register-search/querymark?Mark=EIN

I know there has been two of them unassembled in TVAL's workshop at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton since the days of Gene DeMarco, but it would appear at least one of them will soon be flying.

Possibly later this year, as there is only one flying weekend left for this season, at the end of April.

Will the other one be ZK-DEK? ;)

as long as they don't build a third and register it ZK-ANT...

I've actually seen the two unassembled Eindeckers in the workshop at Hood Aerodrome, along with brand-new Oberursel engines for them.

This was a few years ago (before the issues with Gene DeMarco surfaced) and I've been waiting for the day they flew in Wairarapa skies.

Somewhere I've got a photograph of one of the unassembled Eindecker fighters, but I'm not sure which portable drive it's stored on.

I had to be rather sneaky to capture that image when Gene wasn't looking.

It took me a while to "register" your parochial humour. I've never seen the duo you refer to. ;)

Wish I could say the same...

" I've never seen the duo you refer to"

Well if you do they ALWAYS stand in the same position - very helpful for spotters. Ant on the left as you face them, Dec on the right (gilbert & george, the artists do the same)

Couple of reasonable kids who parleyed their average talent into a seriously lucrative career.

Gilbert and George??? What on earth has this thread turned into? Does anyone else understand what's going on?

I wouldn't have a clue. However, I'm still looking for the photograph of one of the Eindeckers in TVAL's workshop at Hood Aerodrome a few years ago.

I saw it not too long ago while looking for something else, but it is proving to be rather elusive when I really want to locate it.

I found the photograph of one of the disassembled Fokker E.III Eindecker fighters in TVAL's workshop at Hood Aerodrome.

This image was captured on 16th January 2015, which shows how long it and its companion have been waiting to be assembled.

Those are only there until it is assembled and rigged, and the engine and propellor fitted ... and the real wheels are fitted.

TVAL have just registered their second Fokker E.III Eindecker as ZK-EID.

Here is a photograph (not a very good one) of ZK-EIN in the air.

Nice! It must be an interesting type to fly with that rotary buzzing around!

And wing warping for roll control instead of ailerons.

The Maltese cross on the top of the fuselage fascinates me. A lot of paintings and hand-drawn pictures from WW1 though the twenties showed this, yet most subsequent images only showed them on the sides of the fuselage. No doubt the builders have done their research. Just how common was this top cross, and was it done on many other types?

From the print edition of today's Wairarapa Times-Age newspaper. ZK-EID. I believe it was making its second test flight. The first flight was earlier yesterday. The pilot was John Lanham, but he walked away from it.

What a shame... damage doesn't appear to be disastrous assuming wings have been de-rigged.
