Can you ID this airfield please ?

Aviateca 1-11 somewhere in central America....early/mid 1970's.

Thanks.
(Aviateca had leased a Court Line 1-11 in 1970/71 in yellow pending delivery of their own new one from BAC later in 1971,
and it seems they liked the livery so much and adopted it for the aircraft)

Court Line BAC 1-11 518FG G-AXMK - leased to Aviateca Guatemala as TG-ARA from 23-11-1970 until 06-04-1971. My flat-mate was one of the Cabin Crew. It made a very pleasant change for her - rather than spending the winter in Luton. (Our flat was over a Launderette). We looked forward to receiving her letters !

Those were the days! When people communicated by writing letters!

Yes, Sandy would write brilliant letters to us (in the winter gloom of Luton) from Guatemala every week. I kept those letters for many years but sadly they and a lot of other stuff e.g. Nick's letters from Laker Berlin were thinned out when we moved house.......

Yes, went on to Dan-Air after Court went under in 1974; it was actually leased out again to Germanair when that happened, and was then with Dan until the end of their One-Eleven ops in 1991. BAF at Southend bought the airframe for spares. I believe the seatback catering fit carried on with Dan-Air, at least for a while, after they bought it.

Several of the various Central American banana republics' national airlines took to the One-Eleven as their first jets, in penny numbers, some of them just one, and quite often passed them around amongst themselves; or had dual titles on the aircraft. The BAC North American sales/support office, which had considerable success there with the early standard One-Eleven, moved from New York to Miami, which all this fleet passed through most days, and helped look after them. Unlike the standard aircraft, the One-Eleven 500 was never offered to the FAA for certification in the US.
