Does anyone know when the 717s start leaving? Where are they going? Are they leased?

Asking for friend :O

Thanks,

Jack.

Hopefully to a cutting machine that will cut the pieces of **** up into tiny pieces so no one can possibly rebuild them.

Ouch, to be fair to the airframe it is a fine jet provided it’s maintained like Boeing intended and used as designed

One has to ask what misuse is done to them, and what are the resulting issues.

It must be challenging to keep what was always a low production aircraft going, halfway round the world from its supplier or other operators.

Are they in fact leaving ? If so, how many airplanes are there ? There aren't many places operating the B717.

Yes, start “leaving” in the next few weeks. 20 of them at present.
currently based in Brisbane/Melbourne/Canberra/Sydney and Hobart. Operating into launceston, Rockhampton cairns Townsville Mount Isa Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast Sunshine Coast Gladstone Williamtown (Newcastle) maybe a couple more ????

When operated by the original NJS with good engineering support they held the best on time performances in the QF group consistently. Now, not so good.

Thats the result of anything Qantas touches it seems, operated by the pre-Qantas NJS they were fine.

To answer the OP, currently a search on for ferry pilots to deliver the aircraft to the US starting April. Current NJS pilots need not apply however - apparently a Qantas restriction

10 aircraft to be removed from service starting June apparently.

still no word on what is happening with the BNE base/crew given that’s the first base to lose the 717.

Surely Qantas has a subsidiary to operate them in Australia?

Townseville refueller reckons, Sharp Airlines will be operating them in Qantas colours in the new financial year.

Depreciated airframes, green fields EBA for flight crew, lure of jet time for pilots, the stuff that gives some back office dude a chance to climb the greasy pole at Qantas.

Sell 'em to Everts and send them up north to slide around on the ice.The origional eight orphaned Impulse frames were well liked at QF and handy aircraft at the time.

To be operated by what airline ? Why would they be flown to the US to be scrapped ? That can be done anywhere.

As far as I know, Delta is the only US B717 operator...and they still have B717s parked in the desert.

Convert them to freighters ? Why...lots of B737s and MD88s to be converted to freighters.

Just curious...

The retirement to be accelerated some believe.

Another QF affiliated regional expanding their jet Ops, seemingly to fill the gap.

Maybe I’m being unfair to the aeroplane Bloggs vs the operator. But living in a part of the world where we saw them quite often for a while, and at least 2-3 cancellations/delayed flights a week, when we were paying through the roof, it didn’t leave a good taste in anyone’s mouth.

My first jumpseat ride I ever did as a kid was in an Impulse 717. Fond memories.

12 more E-jets coming to Alliance on that front, but they’d be having the same problems as NJS with sourcing crew I’d guess.

Why bother?

Rumour is the majors in the USA such as Delta/AA/United are about to start offering visa's to Aussies.
Bigger coin than Atlas/Southwest.

That'd be a huge surprise if it happens. I'm not convinced the top career-destination US carriers need to do that yet (if ever).

I’d be very surprised if that happens. We’re not short of applicants (UAL), & ALPA would fight hard against it.

There was a problem with a B717 today - QF1598 (VH-YQT). Hydraulics problems...flaps wouldn't deploy. Was landing at about 190 knots upon touchdown. Usually it should be around 130 to 140 knots for the 717. MEL to NTL, ended up returning to MEL.

Thread Drift Alert:

Did they say if the B717 had no flaps and no slats...or had slats only ?

In a 737 no trailing edge flaps event last week Vapp was 184.

Absolutely 0% chance of that unfortunately. The majors aren’t anywhere near needing that and probably never will be. As others said, ALPA would have a meltdown if they even broached the idea
