A formation of two-seaters above Hood Aerodrome in Wairarapa, New Zealand last weekend.

Three BE.2 of various types, one RE.8, one DH4 and one Bristol Fighter.

One of the BE.2, the DH4 and the Bristol Fighter are the real thing. The other two BE.2 and the RE.8 are reproductions.

Sadly I missed seeing the RE.8 flying in the UK before it went to the RAF Museum. Maybe one day...

mealeagertoo, I agree.

Where else can you see a Staffel of Fokker Dr. 1s?

The lone SE5a is wisely giving them a wide berth! :E

They can also put up a respectable jet formation:

Great picture Kiwithrottlejockey, thanks for posting!! :D

I must also say thank you to I-42 for your two photos, that glint of sunlight on the Staffel of Fokker Dr.1s really makes it a memorable picture, and it's good to see those old Vampires keeping an eye on the Eastern Bloc. 👍🏼

Oh dear, the SE5A seems to be running away

It would seem that in times of crisis, contrary to what we may have heard, NZ could still field at least 3 combat wings. Brilliant!

Au contrair...

Yes, it might be Albert Ball, who frequently attacked large formations on his own.

Here’s another picture of the Dr. 1s that I couldn’t find the other day. Very impressive formation flying:

What happened to the company that built them Wasn't there a court case on the subject of who actually owned them?

Problem concerning Gene DeMarco who was found guilty of some form of fraud. Disappointing to see such engineering talent spoiled by greed or whatever.

I seem to recall there were previous allegations at Old Rhinebeck.

The Old Rheinbeck fraud is discussed in the previous thread mentioned in India 42's note above. It's in the Vanity Fair article which describes the whole sorry tale.

I haven't looked at it for years, but I remembered the allegations from The Aerodrome forum.

Does anyone know of a production list for ALL the replicas/reproductions that have been built in New Zealand...i.e. by Vintage Aviator.???

It would seem that in times of crisis, contrary to what we may have heard, NZ could still field at least 3 combat wings. Brilliant!

Let me correct that for you Duncan.

"NZ could still field at least 3 privately-owned combat wings."

Just the thing if you wanted to organize a coup! :E

Hmmmmmm.......We are lead to believe the Ukrainians are looking for some jet fighter aircraft. Perhaps they could strike a deal.....??!!!
