is there anyone trying to do sort of commuting with QR? Please chime in.
Latest I heard is that they are getting back to 6GOFF.

With all due respect 6 days off (1 day to get home and 1 to get back - and that’s if the loads are ok) is only 4 days at home a month. That’s not really commuting is it!!

As a commuter, sometimes that how it works out. Some of us will not bring our families here after the covid fiasco and whatever the next knee-jerk response is.

The 6 Off is possible again however the Guarantee off is 4. 6 consecutive days off is a bidding luck and you won't have that every month. Also bear in mind that the 4 GOFF is only applicable to months without leave and limited training duties. If you have a week of leave your normal days off are reduced (example 7 days of leave will result in 3-4 days of that month bringing it to a total of 10 for the month). Combine that with around 100h+ every regular month. Duties before days off often end around 10-11pm, first day duties start often 6-9 am. You need to be 12h before duty in Doha.
It is a not commuting job unless it's short temporary plan.

I haven't heard that you can't have both GOFFs and leave on the same months. They can't be connected is what I heard. That was info I got during the interview from the instructors.
Can anyone confirm please?

I have not worked for Qatar.. but down the road. My thoughts are this. Forget commuting….it might work some months but it might not. And remember, what is offered today ( 6 days off in a row) can be changed in a heart beat, and there is nothing you can do about it. So never make your decision based on the fact you can commute….it’s not a fact you can rely on. And in the ME they use your leave as “days off “, so don’t think ever, that you can have a week of leave then another 6 days off in a row in the same month, I doubt it would ever happen.

Commuting for an airline can be very stressful. You seem to spend your life waiting in queues at check-in, passport and security, along with the general scrum and cramped seating - unless you can travel in business.

Add to that you really need a plan B if your flight is full or tech, or the Wx closes in, so your 6 or 4 G days can be eaten into.

The OP says only for a short while, and I would urge that they stick to that for their own health, both mental and physical.

I did it for about a year - but not for a ME carrier - and only short-haul Heathrow to Toulouse. And that was on our own service, so I had free parking at Toulouse and free flights. I positioned in uniform so I could always use the jump seat in those days, since I knew all the other flight crews in the Toulouse base and they knew me.
Even so, there were some anxious moments at Heathrow waiting with a group of other standbys to be called forward - although I was almost guaranteed a place because I could use the jump-seat.

I can't stress how SOPS is right about this. Do not come to Qatar or the Middle East in general planning to commute if your contract is not a commuting one. The GOFF (regardless it's 4 or 6) are not a contractual thing. It's a benefit the company can give or take at will or according to their needs. Commuting might work for a period and then all of a sudden becomes impossible. It will only bring frustration to you and your family, and this won't be the company's fault.

I'm sure some people have been doing it and seems to work, but this is not the rule and chances are it is not going to be the same case with you. Either bring the family to Doha or accept the fact you can be away from them for a while and everything it entails.

Maybe I can describe this another way. when I joined EK..we had a big presentation from HR showing the bidding system and how you could get lots of days off in a row. For the first 2 years it worked perfectly… I could. get 10 days off in a row easily.

Them the “local” manager thought that we were not working hard enough… and it turned to poo

i am home now…earn half ( or less) the money…. But my happiness level is off the scale.

Just be careful out there…it’s not all good.

6 GOFF has never existed it's 4 with a lucky bid for 6 being 4 GOFF+2OFF. Off days can be connected to your leave by bidding they will not be marked as GOFF but as OFF, again by lucky bidding.
There is no plan for 6 days off as a month
​​roster often only has 8 days off. Also bear in mind that if you commute you can not report fatigue ever as they will get back to you.
