Hi All

Wondering if I could get some help. I've accepted a role with EK and have been offered a villa in Meydan South or Meydan Heights for me, wife and kids - or accommodation allowance.

Struggling to find info about the two areas that isn't years old - assuming things have changed somewhat since they were first built when in those times I can see a lot of grumbles from online posts (!).

Can anyone comment on what's it's like in those areas now in 2023 - is it a nice place to live? are the villas nice? does anyone have any links to any pictures? which is the better option of the two? what are the communities and facilities like there? Are they a nice place to bring up kids etc.? or should I really be looking to find my own place?

Thanks all so much for your help!

You'll find a broad spectrum of opinions in the pilot community.

From my point of view, Meydan South is a great community with a very good school ideal to bring up young kids. If you appreciate big villas and you don't mind living surrounded with your colleagues I think is a very good option.

You can always change your mind and buy - opt out - get the allowance. But you won't find villas that size for less than a million $ (3.7 M AED).

Bear in mind, many people are opting out from Meydan and buying. In my case,.... been there done that and we're now happy and settled in MS. I prefer MS to MH, some people differ but most I think would agree MS is overall better.

More info I'm happy to answer PMs.

Pretty good advice there from aussiefarmer.

Just to add that the age of the villas in South can range from being quite new to a few years old and the buildings and the interiors age fast, mainly due to the standard of construction. 'A' villas are the oldest and 'H' villas are still very new. Villas in Heights are smaller and are designed in a terraced layout, whereas villas in South are semi-detached and don't feel quite so hemmed in. Gardens in Heights are barely big enough to swing a cat but there is a lot more space in South. Personally, I think Heights has better facilities on site than South does but then again, things are not that far away by car anyway. It's all very subjective at the end of the day.

I stay in South and I don't dislike it, nor am I in love it but it suits me. More importantly, I don't feel at work when I am not at work but that very much depends on who your neighbours are and mine are friendly yet reserved, which suits me perfectly. Nothing worse than getting embroiled into a conversation about work as soon as you step out the house and see your neighbour!

I have lived in around 12 different places in 5 countries over the last 20 years and Meydan South is by far the worst place I have lived. the water comes out the taps black for fig sake

'meydan is a great community' that's brilliant - you say hi to somebody walking the dog and they look at you like your a life form from a different planet, ignore you and carry on walking - most people living here are utter bellends! it is definitely not a community , if you are looking for non artificial communities, Dubai probably isnt for you, its every man for himself here, definitely no community spirit!

While we're on the subject, here's a few basic questions regarding Meydan South from my side:

How spacious are the Meydan South houses? ie, How many bedrooms, do they have 'spare' rooms (ie. non-bedroom, for example a laundry or linen closet etc), single/double garage, covered parking, and rough garden size? If they vary, how much variation in terms of size? What is 'standard' with the house, ie fibre internet connection, or any fittings other than what you'd expect like lights etc?

I have no expectations of luxurious grandeur, but I'm curious what a family of four could expect, given that there isn't much information (and especially pictures) out there.

Thanks all.

Nimrodjoe is not an EK pilot. She is a spouse of one. You can find the same rants on LinkedIn.

Thanks very much for the information, much appreciated.

Edit to add: Are they all of roughly similar sizes and/or design? Just curious if some have, for example, only 3 bedrooms vs 4 (or something like that). Thanks again.

Try to avoid MS or MH. It will make life more easy. If you like having your fellow coworkers around you, by all means...company accomodation will be perfect.
If you opt out, your mortgage will be paid by the company. Only thing is.. you might get stuck with your property when you are forced to leave one day. Dubai Hills is quite nice for Dubai standards. A lot of MS/MH refugees are there.
