Did my class 1 EASA initial, passed absolutely everything except the ECG printed out as abnormal...i was a little bit nervous and my heart rate went up,

Abnormal ECG reported, t wave abnormality, anyone else? Class 1. Now I have to do some extra tests which a re expensive.

"SINUS RHYTHM WITH SINUS ARRHYTHMIA
NON SPECIFIC ST & T WAVE ABNORMALITY
ABNORMAL ECG

UNCONFIRMED REPORT"

I'm fairly thin build, Dr said it may be due to this, but I now have to go and do echo, 24hr ECG, stress test and cardiology consultant report etc.

Anyone any idea what my chances are?

Update: consultant says the ECG shows "borderline LVH". Anyone experienced this? It's starting to look a tad negative now

ALWAYS ask for the leads to be checked if you have an abnormal ECG undertaken other than by a cardiologist. A well known F1 driver in his 30s was diagnosed with a heart attack. Fortunately so was the next young fit pilot and the AME then put the leads on correctly

Talk to the cardiologist. After all, you are paying him. Does he agree about the T waves - remember the report is an automated read out by a tiny algorythmn. If not is the abnormality significant? Tell him your career rests on it and not to sit on the fence.

LVH is left ventricular hypertrophy or an enlarged left ventricle - the main pumping chamber. Athletes will always develop this as the heart is a muscle the same as in your arms and legs so it may be completely normal. It wasnt picked up by the algorythmn so cant be greater than the maximum allowed as it simply measures a distance and is binary. Again you want a binary response from the cardiologist not 'well it may be.....' nor 'might be worth reviewing in 10 years time.....'

Good luck

Hi Radgirl, I'm glad you replied and appreciate the advice.

I actually have my final appointment tomorrow to go over the results of the tests. While the echo was happening I recall hearing the operator mentioning something to do with septum wall thickness 1.3 or something, but am hoping I misheard.

I will be sure to get a clear answer from consultant hopefully.

As Radgirl suggests (and as I did but was deleted for) make sure the AME commits to the diagnosis made as it affects your career and earnings. Far too easy to take your money and come up with some meaningless drivel ("UNCONFIRMED REPORT"), the AME must back up the diagnosis with facts and be the professional they are being paid as.
