I hadn’t seen this before, thanks for posting.
Aircraft design’s one of the many things I know nothing of , but it’s rather long isn’t it?
I thought it would be a struggle to invent something even uglier than the F35 , I now know better!

At least its a fairly original design. The J-20 is positioned in the PLAAF more as an interceptor than anything else.

Take a look at this old prototype https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikoyan_Project_1.44

You may well rethink your "fairly original design".

It certainly is weird looking aircraft the J-20. It reminds of the Su-15 Flagon. Long and out of proportion. That said, as you have pointed out, the J-20 is more of an Interceptor, like the Flagon was.

What surprised me was they do not have the intakes stepped off from the fuselage to reduce boundary layer effect.

As a diversion - J20 RC model flying display. Bloody good flying and smoke generators.

I'm familiar with the 1.44. In fact I have modelled it for a flight sim in the past. I don't need to rethink. Only on a very top level could they be described as similar.

Difficult to glean anything from the design when it seems to be still in its delivery crate.

I think it's a competent aircraft and a viable threat to the West which we shouldn't underestimate. Another reason why our armed forces should be given more money, more people and the best kit.
