View Full Version : Rumours & News or Accidents and Close Calls?

What is the policy to determine what qualifies for Rumours & News, the headline board of PPRuNe, and what qualifies for Accidents and Close Call?

What prompts the above question is that the Rumours & News board has many threads relating to accidents and close calls, some quite minor, yet the serious Precision Air incident of 06 November 2022 was quickly 'relegated' to Accidents and Close Calls.

I guess the ‘many threads’ you refer to are older ones, when the A&CC forum was in the Non-Airline Group before being moved to the Flight Deck Group? This move was made a few months ago to more easily delineate where accident/incident discussions should be, since they mostly were started and left in the R&N Forum. Read the Forum Descriptions and all should be clear: we hope!

I agree that it is not always clear - the R&N forum notes say ".... Also, items that may be of interest to professional pilots." - so it would easy to post accidents as items of interest if you don't know about the more specific forum.

And some may need some updating. How many understand the term 'Bash' or know anything about one 22 years ago? Quote: "A forum for announcements and anything else to do with the PPRuNe Bashes such as the 20th May 2000 Ash Bash."

Re your first comment, we rely on that uncommon attribute: common sense. Stuff in Tech Log could also be considered ‘items that may be of interest, etc’ but we understand that Tech Log gets a better discussion base.

Thanks for the pointer about Bashes: duly edited, and when possible and if needed we’ll amend any other forum as well 👍

Dear Senior Pilot,

Since you invited contributions, this forum is still referred to as a “sub forum” of the computer issues forum, in that forum’s description, despite pprune problems and queries have being made a fully fledged forum many years ago.

I hope that’s clear, but I doubt it!

Clear as mud! Where is that reference please, other than being a sub forum of the Miscellaneous Forum?

Sorry about my poor attempt. The description under “Computer/Internet Issues & Troubleshooting” includes these words: “NOT FOR REPORTING ISSUES WITH PPRuNe FORUMS! Please use the subforum “PPRuNe Problems or Queries””

My point is that while PPRuNe Problems or Queries used to be a subforum of Computer/Internet Issues & Troubleshooting, that changed many years ago.

Hope this helps.

Sure: it, and all the other forums here, are sub forums of the Misc. Forum which is what the description refers to.

I think 🙊

Please forgive me, but I will try to explain again. I’m old but can remember the olden days. Many years ago you could not access PPRuNe Problems or Queries directly. You had to first click on Computer/ Internet Issues and Troubleshooting and then there was a link to PPRuNe Problems or Queries. It was in those days a subforum of the Computer/Internet Issues & Troubleshooting forum. You had to go through one to get to the other. But, again many years ago, things changed. PPRuNe Problems and Queries became a forum you could access directly. However it’s still referred to as a “subforum” when it is not.

When PPRuNe opens, at the top of the page is the heading “Flight Deck Forums”. Note the plural. Under that are four forums. Further down the page we see Misc. Forums, again note the plural. So things listed under that heading, are forums, not subforums.

I really didn’t want to cause any trouble! And if you like things the way they are, that’s fine by me! I only started this completely unnecessary exercise because you were so appreciative of the suggestion to remove the reference to a bash which happened 22 years ago.

Not for the first time, I think I have caused more fuss than I intended. Sorry.
