View Full Version : Alan Gets More Money

I see that at the AGM, Alan got some more big dollars. The reason was, if we don’t pay him, he will take his “ talent” to another airline.

I’m sure Qantas is FULL of talented people. Why do most of them have a pay freeze, while Alan gets more rewards for what has lately has been rubbish?

Could have put the 5 mill towards the repair of the broken aircraft seats and galley equipment on his premier aircraft.

How much would it cost to fly in experts from manufacturers to repair said broken equipment during turnaround at SYD, LAX or LHR.

I see Goyder has wheeled out the old ‘ we need to increase pay to maintain talent in a tight labour market’ line. Honestly there would be 1000’s of people in the world that could do that job and you only need one of them. So I’m not quite sure how tight that CEO market actually is.

I am sure Goyder could find an executive or two (or dozen) from the Wesfarmers pool.

That would actually be a preferred option, as then the rest of Alan’s clan would resign soon after before being forced out. Certainly is a business ripe for an executive clean out.

One of the most important jobs of the CEO is to groom a successor. If there’s nobody ready to do that (so Alan needs to be paid more to stay) then I’d say that’s an F. It’s important for organisations to refresh their leaders regularly. His holiday in Europe during a crisis and buying a 19 million dollar home during Covid might indicate why. Alan did a good job in his first several years. Now a different skill set is required.

You can't repair broken equipment without parts. Chances are the manufacturers do not have the expertise any longer to fix those first class seats. They should have spent Alan's bonus years ago and replaced them.

It's net zero for Qantas, the money he's saved not giving payrises would pay his bonus 100 times over, he's done a great job.

i am very sure if alan did absolutely nothing the airline would actually be better of, let the experienced frontline staff and managers run the show and the airline would have flourisished the last year and taken over the market

now pissed off ff's platinium members are swear never to fly qantas again, rex and virgin are welcoming qantas customers with open arm's

By their own admission, $4 Million = 0.1% increase for every staff member in the Qantas Group - The C-Suite is unashamedly eating everyone's lunch

Just look at how the airline runs over Xmas. Busiest time of the year. Not a manager in sight, no yoga classes or dog patting sessions and the place runs fine. So by that measurement we are way over managed and that starts at the top.

CEO needs to be outsourced like cleaning/maintenance/baggage handling. If it's better to outsource for cheaper services to make the airline competitive then why not the CEO? Do as I say don't do as I do....

Why are you posting stuff from that disgusting Vladimir Putin sycophant? Boikov is a cheerleader for Russia’s campaign of murder in Ukraine. When MH17 was shot down he traveled to occupied Ukraine to support the forces who downed it. He’s also an anti vax nutter, along with all the other conspiracies these far right nutters go along with. He’s truly a sick and demented individual. Any employee gripes with management have nothing to do with the propaganda that Putin lover is pushing.

If that clown came up to me on the street I’d be telling him to “f**k off” too.

Why? Because they both deserve the lack of respect.

That would have the advantage that if someone who is a competent CEO came in but didn't know the business, they would be forced to promote talent from within, a la, people who actually know about running an airline!!

Me too and if he didn't, I might just give him a fat lip to go on with.

Tony Burke calls out the Qantas scare campaign given their history of employee relations.

"It's hard to find many companies that have had more different ways of working around the current laws than Qantas has"

Some more bloody aeroplanes would be handy. Like the numbers of 78’s they originally ordered! But why do that! Less charter destinations and more full time joints. And a facility to train your front line staff instead of having to send them overseas to use other airline setups. At least the Bankstown pool is warm this time of year.

An ASIC report states Qantas received $695,341,100 of tax payer funds from JobKeeper.

An ASIC report states Qantas received $695,341,100 of tax payer funds from JobKeeper.
Given that it lasted for about 12 months at $1500/fortnight, that implies that about 18000 staff received it. With the staff that were laid off and the other redundancies and resignations, that sounds about right.

Like it or not, this is a failure of the Morrison Government not Qantas.

Why free money was handed out with no strings is beyond me. The Australian taxpayer should either be expecting interest and repayment of their loans to companies that received Jobkeeper , or a dividend on their ‘investment’.

part of the reason we are in the economic hole we are in is $billions of free money handouts
