Need help finding a film

There was a not very well-known film made by a former airline pilot who became a film director and played the primary part. Essentially, his own story. It was set and made in Brazil or some other Latin American country. The plot is about a prudent and righteous airline pilot following rules and manuals while the airline exerts pressure on him pushing him towards infringements. There is also his naive love story, when he writes letters to his beloved girl he met in high school.

I can't remember either the film title or the director's name.
