Despite the claim that Russia is an global pariah there are plenty of places that Russians can go on their holidays, and circumvent overfly bans, of which Egypt is but one. Whether you agree or disagree with that, it is the reality.

Streams of Turkish and Russian aircraft every day taking the long way round between the Moscow Airports and the Turkish resorts (primarily Antalya, from what I can see currently)

A few Russian carriers also in the air currently to and from Sharm and Hurghada

Yes, we had absolutely no idea where the OP was talking about.

On a short holiday to Sharm over 20 yrs ago, the departing Russians using Ilyushin’s were not a joy to listen to on the beach. Dare I say a Tupolev took part as well. Sharm also had a colloquial title as well.

Can you give any more information? Russian aircraft are currently frequent in Turkey, Egypt etc

No, but the noise of elderly Aeroflot aircraft is better not being heard whilst on a holiday beach, never returned. I am aware of current circumstances.

No Russian built aircraft other than maybe a SJ100.

I think the original point was that 20 years ago the noise from Russian built aircraft departing SSH made what could have been an enjoyable beach holiday quite noisy and disruptive? Having lived on a flight path where Balkan Tu154’s and Aviogenex Tu 134’s were regulars I either got the point or have made up my own interpretation!!

It means Russian airlines rather than aircraft. I was surprised to hear this was still going on. I thought apart from anything else they were keen to keep people within the country to stop them draft dodging or finding out the truth.

Although for some this could have made it a dream destination!

Flew out of Sharm some years ago returning from a cruise on a Monarch cattlebus (A300) never seen so many drunk and parralitic Russians trying to board their aircraft some being helped up the steps by fellow passengers. Some very good looking blond females were a bonus!

Thanks how it works in Russia, be male rude and annoying and you get on in a good paid job. Be a good lookin gal and hook up with them, you have access to money.

About a dozen years ago we used to night stop in Sharm at one of the Naama Bay Hiltons.

We would check in early evening and, as you do, proceed to the bar.

The bar would be surrounded by Russian males - usually age 40/50+, drunk, obnoxious, loud and enjoying the company of their new ‘comrades’ they have met at the bar.

At the other end of the room, sitting to the side, would be a large number of their wives - usually 20 something, very attractive, a child nearby and sometimes accompanied by their mother (about the same age as the husband at the bar).

The girls must have seen something in their husbands - I guess it could only have been the dollar.

I suspect that if you had shown even a glimmer of attention to one of the girls you may not, subsequently, have been in a fit state to operate back to the UK.

Yes, you sum it up well. I have seen more than can be written here. A very different way of life.

I suspect you have not been to some holiday destinations for Brits in Spain or elsewhere. I would suggest that apart from the presence of some attractive women the situation would not be much different at the bar.

I would suggest the only correct spelling would be in Arabic. How do you spell peabrain?

"I suspect you have not been to some holiday destinations for Brits in Spain or elsewhere."

Or Icelanders heading home at AMS.................. they used to fence them off from the other passengers in the bar

Very very wise advice - same applies in spades for discos in Moscow ;)

Just to the north of the airport is a rough strip marked on both ends “Belly Landing”. I never noticed it all the times I flew in there but it is quite obvious on google earth. Is this a leftover from when the airport was an Israeli base?

I’ve flown in there loads, and never noticed it!

Given the sand/dust storms they get, and how clear the writing is on the Google image, I’m surmising it’s a fairly recent addition.
