What are your thoughts on this flare technique? I assume he has to bump Vapp by quite a bit to make it work.

A320 can be landed closing thrust but at 100ft or even before is suitable for slat and flap jammed at zero. Good old technique start flare and close thrust works in all aircraft and most conditions. A little before or after not an issue.

There is a large white area under the message from Check Airman. Should there be a video link there?

Imagine if he flared high and CM2 needed to take control and wanted to do a go around.

If Airbus thought it was a great technique to close the TL at 100ft, I imagine they would write it in the FCOM. You just better hope you dont hit a downdraft with engines at idle.

Wow...Good luck with that technique!

A friend of mine took a sim screening for a Chinese company a couple of years ago and failed because the A/THR OFF ECAM popped about 5 ft before touchdown (which sometimes happens even with a by-the-book flare). Apparently not the same company 😅

Nothing wrong with that. He should be congratulated. Good technique and great for saving fuel. Should promote him to Head of Training.

I don’t know what is more idiotic. This landing technique or showing it off on YT.

Classic young Chinese spunky captains showing they're better than anyone else.

Out of curiosity an examiner of mine did this in tail-wind conditions as a demonstration, cut the power around 50FT. However on Airbus Safety First they recommend cut power "later" for tail-wind conditions, so which one is it?!

For tailwind FCTM recommends early flare i.e. before 30ft. not cut power early. Thrust can reduced at normal 20ft, a little early or late as required.

Thanks all. I thought it looked a bit premature. The earliest I've seed somebody go to idle in "normal" conditions was 50ft. It got my attention, but I'd rather not try it. 100ft seems like you're asking for trouble.

Classic set-up for a tail strike if you ask me.
