This may explain the Alderney Approach Light System U/S NOTAM :bored:

Maybe it wasn’t removed pre-flight, and was a contributing factor to the incident ?

How did it manage to get damage on the wing root but not the prop? Must have been quite nose high on impact.

Perhaps an abandoned take off - especially if luckyrat is correct and the pitot cover was still in place, and pilot pulled the mags before hitting the lights - there is some prop damage, top blade has a slight bend near the tip and a scuff on the right hand one. Or an engine problem on take off of course!

The blade at 4 o'clock as viewed from the front looks like it may have a scuff mark and the 12 o'clock maybe a slight bend above the stripes and damaged tip.

Thank goodness for that, or it probably would have spun the plane around and ended up much less well!

Not sure about that. Looks like the right inboard impact may have involved the wing spar.

The incident happened on landing into sun. Hit approach lights on final by getting too low according to sources there.

Repairable, maybe, but probably an insurance total for sure.

The incident happened on landing into sun. Hit approach lights on final by getting too low according to sources there.

Flapless approach perhaps, it would be strange to be that low on approach even with the sun straight in your eyes. Even stranger if it was a locally based aircraft.

EDIT - Presume they mean he hit the APAPIs by deviating from the runway? is there actually an ALS at Alderney, it has been years since I have been there and the AIP doesn't show any.

Jepp EGJA chart shows HIALS... 3 lights closest to 26 NOTAMed u/s.

Okay, stand corrected, but you would have to be flying a seriously low approach to clip those HIALS, low sun or not, and less of an excuse when the runway has APAPIs!
