Hi,

Heard from a pax on board BA815 that it had “an engine that ran out of fuel”. Flight landed way ahead of schedule. Any details?

thanks

Aeroplanes always go faster on one engine because you have more fuel to burn, so you can push the "go" levers further forward.

Was thinking along the line of emergency declared and priority given.🤔

If both engines ran out of fuel presumably it would land even further ahead of schedule :O

How unfortunate that your passenger friend can't remember what date they flew.

Given the route (Copenhagen-Heathrow) and the fact that winds have been easterly all this week, early ATAs are hardly surprising.

A case of under selling and over delivering (as the industry always does on flight tickets)

I suspect the flight crew shut down an engine on the ground to save fuel while waiting for a stand and the explanation has been misunderstood.

It was 11 AUG.

Hopefully this is the case. My friend was kind of worried and relieved. Mixed feelings😅

G-TTND operated BA815 on 11/8. It arrived 3 min early.
Same aircraft departed on its next flight to FCO,9 min behind schedule, after a planned 50 min turnaround.

Must say I'm impressed that the friend noticed that they arrived 3 min ahead of schedule.

Probably rarer than an inflight shutdown at the moment!

So Newton suggests
Indeed. But not at the intended destination.
