I've been waiting 10 weeks now for my Class 1 renewal. I've emailed the office several times and receive the standard response that it is being reviewed. Duh...I know that!

Has anyone had to wait in excess of 6 weeks? I wonder which will arrive first..my passport or medical?

I renewed mine in February and got it in July.

I would ring them and get a direct answer on what they need, rather than bouncing emails.

Mine took just shy of four months. Needed to get two extensions.

I also needed two extensions, which they provided without prompting, earlier this year.

I’m curious what makes these renewals take so long? I renewed mine last year and this year and had it within a matter of hours.

Was I just lucky or are the people who are having them take so long needing extra tests etc.?

Sounds like they have a "service charter" or similar that aims to get correspondence back within say 180 business days, and almost achieve that lofty goal.

I renewed my expired Class 1 a few weeks ago and received the temporary extended certificate via text before I left the Doctor and received the 12 month certificate a week or so later via email.

No extra tests required and I'm under 60.

I have "extras" that need addressing and never had to wait too long after all reports are supplied. I think a phone call and discussion over the why its delayed and how it can progress is needed, if it requires a specialist on Avmeds side that is only available once in a blue moon maybe that is the issue, but I understand they meet weekly or fortnightly for this stuff.

They took exactly 180 days to provide my Part 61 license.

By the time my annual medical certificate is finally sent to me I will have ticked over another birthday.

I have no idea...theres no consistency either. Last year I had my renewal with 1 week...this year...who knows.

I'll give them a call tomorrow. Are they short staffed like everywhere else?

When it involves a pilot's professional future I think you could have expressed that far better as: "Sounds like they reached rock bottom and continued to dig........."

Having been around the aviation industry for 50 years, DCA/CAA/CASA's principal achievements are probably best described as:

Declining aircraft numbers;
Declining general aviation services;
Declining private and general aviation pilot population;
Declining regulator standards.

I note that CASR 11.140 says:11.140 Continuation of authorisation until application decided

(1) This regulation applies in relation to a time‑limited authorisation (the old authorisation) if:

(a) at least:

(i) in the case of an authorisation held by a corporation, 90 days; or

(ii) in any other case, 21 days;

before the time when the old authorisation would otherwise cease, its holder applies to CASA for the issue of a new time‑limited authorisation that confers the same privileges, or authorises the holder to carry out the same functions or duties, as the old authorisation; and

(b) at the time when the old authorisation would otherwise cease, CASA has not made a decision on the application.

(2) For subregulation (1), an applicant has applied for the new authorisation only if:

(a) the applicant has given to CASA the necessary application, in the form required by these Regulations; and

(b) the application is taken to be complete, in accordance with regulation 11.030; and

(c) the applicant has given to CASA any other documents required by these Regulations to be given to CASA with the application.

Note: The applicant does not need to give to CASA information or a document that CASA already has—see regulation 11.145.

(3) In spite of any other provision of these Regulations, but subject to subregulation (4), the old authorisation continues in force until:

(a) CASA makes a decision on the application; and

(b) if the decision is to grant the new authorisation—the new authorisation comes into force.

(4) If CASA asks for further information or a document or invites the applicant to make a submission, under a provision of Subpart 11.B as applied by regulation 11.145, and the applicant does not do so within the period specified by CASA under that provision, then, despite subregulation (3), the old authorisation is taken to cease at the end of that period.

I also note that CASR 11.015 says: time‑limited authorisation means:

(a) an authorisation that, under another provision of these Regulations, ceases after a particular period; or

(b) an authorisation granted by CASA for a specified period.It seems to me that a medical certificate issued under the provisions of Part 67 of CASR satisfies the definition of “time-limited authorisation”. Do you agree? If not, why not?

It also seems to me that I have completed the required application form for and submitted all of the information required in support of my application for a new medical certificate, more than 21 days before the date of expiry of my current medical certificate. Do you agree? If not, why not?

It therefore seems to me that CASR 11.140(3) operates so as to continue my current medical certificate in force until you get around to making a decision on my application (or, if you grant me a further certificate, until the new certificate comes into force). Do you agree? If not, why not, and why do you think CASR 11.140 was made in the first place?

If you do agree, please take as long as you like to complete the no-doubt earnest and onerous deliberations arising from your pathological need to try to convince people that you know better than qualified medical practitioners and specialists who’ve already decided that I meet the legislated medical standard without the ‘benefit’ of your input.
