The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) are in town in Dublin as part of the Irish Air Corps centenary celebrations and the Bray Air Show (23-24 July).

Included in the celebrations is recognition of 103 year old John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway DFC, veteran of The Battle of Britain.

Good to see him looking well although his long hair looks a little incongruous under an SD hat!

Sadly I understand that he has dementia. I had hoped to talk to him about one of his fellow pilots on 85 Sqn in France, Denis Wissler, who I’m writing a book on, but I believe that he is not able to recall much. A sad end to a very brave life.
