100-hour PPL lands fuel-starved 1967 Aero Commander 100 on mountain highway in Swain County, North Carolina after first preparing to land in river. No injuries, no damage.

I like the way he vacated the runway next exit.

He was a lucky, lucky man his engine didn't quit 15 seconds later as those wires were just oh-so predictably waiting to completely ruin his day.

But wtf was he doing wazzing at that sort of level in a mountainous valley in the first place? In a single?

More like Silly Jr.

Good point. I did think that too.

Altitude is money in the bank - but hadn't he just recently done the TO - so hadn't had time to accrue that.
Definitely - whatever it was - it was a lucky escape - doesn't get any better than that. Doesn't need to.

Bloody good Landing - bloody good use of Rudder.
