Good Day

I have a bmi of 31, will this be an issue for a class 1 medical issuance? And additional testing required?

TIA

I don’t think it does matter. I remember my doctor rightfully criticized me for a ‘fat BMI of 27’ but my buddy was a huge muscle head with BMI of 33, but was ok as he was very fit.

29 is the limit to pass the medical assessment with Emirates, GCAA I believe a little bit higher but is not going to help if the goal is working for Emirates.

BMI 35 and over is an issue with the GCAA. Under that you should be okay if no other medical issues!

It always amuses me as a fatty that companies still worry about this. Your brain flies the plane, the only thing not covered on a medical…….the brain.

I had to go to a cardiologist who told me if I’d put on another 20 kgs I’d be at the same heart attack risk as a moderate smoker. So why don’t smokers get barred? Considering how many airframes have been deliberately flown into the ground over the last decade by those with mental health issues, I’d have thought medical departments would have bigger fish to fry. If you pardon the pun!

This exactly is my question. I think BMI 30 and above is an issue at EK and EY only. It’s not a GCAA thingie as GCAA follows ICAO.

All EK is worried about is, that you could „potentially” become a long-term sick problem with all the cost being involved for them….

But they shouldn’t be too worried about this, because with the next crisis on the horizon you will be the first one out anyway, as they did with all the poor fellas beginning of COVID….

I thought it was a image issue with EK and EY. Didnt want a fat individual walking through a terminal, bad for EK superior image, just dosent sit well on Instagram or tick tock... pilot selfie...
