I've been to an iron ore mine in the middle of nowhere, and come away with about 20 or 30 spherical pellets about 5 or 10 mm in diameter of a mix of iron and iron ore

The airport near the mine have assured me they are used to this... but I'm wondering how other airports will react on my trip home if these are in hand luggage. I don't trust somebody on minimum wage in 'customer services' at a hub airport to give a competent answer

Anyone able to advise ?

depends on which jobsworth you get on the day

Probably best if you can get an end to end - eg Perth LHR from a place they know about mines (ie NOT the UK)

The question is also are these business samples or souvenirs" - in the first case ship them by a specialist carrier and charge the company. In the latter stick them in the post surface mail

Once managed to talk my way through Sheremetyevo with a few rolls of metal magnets but it took some doing (and the gift of some to the security team)
