Jetstar Cadetship Committment?

Hello everyone. I am very fortunate to have made it to the final phase of the Jetstar Cadetship in Australia, however I was just wanting some insight to anyone who knows about it. I have had a pretty deep look into the mega thread regarding this topic, but didn't find anything really related to my question specifically.

What does the time commitment look like? I know it says generally you’ll be busy 4-5 days a week. But it also says through semester 1+2 as well as the summer and winter terms. This already makes me assume I will not be able to work my part-time job during it.

My concern is if its possible to get time off. Eg. Sickness, big events. I understand its a very intense course, so I just want to know if I still will be able to participate in my life activities around it?

I would plan nothing inside 5 days. Also days off those who I know spent much time heads in books and charts.

Write off your life for the next 5 years. I’d say the program would be more suited to a casual job on the side vs part time, if your wanting that income.

Not sure how special these special events are. My son was born whilst I was on a red eye. That’s the nature of the industry.

I would also be mindful having these conversations during the process, if you want to ask questions about time off, jobs on the side, social events, then your application is going in the bin. You will do whatever the company wants, wherever they want you, and whenever they want you.

Lol it's one thing for a cadet wanting to party at every foreign port and have days off back at home just to drink and party until the sun comes up. But missing your child's birth is not admirable. Serving your job over your family (whom you have limited time with) is not admirable. I understand not being there for your child's birth was maybe not the most easiest thing to avoid, but to talk it up as a point of pride shows you have your priorities in the wrong place.

Priorities are in the right place Kundry, apologies if I came across as that person, most certainly am not.

Everyone has different circumstances and different levels around what they have sacrificed over the years, I would like to think others have gone through much more vs I have over the years and I will always help those out where needed. Everything pales in comparison to all those who are now jobless within the last few years. When you sign up for this industry you go in knowing what was posted above. As a Captain told me 30 years ago, you could be on the other side of the world while your wife gives birth out of the blue, I was on the other side of the country when that actually happened, however my wife and I agreed that these things could happen when we made that choice 20 years ago.

Company I was in 24 years ago when my first pup was born stood me down on full pay for 3 weeks so I wouldn't miss the birth. Aaah the good old days

There’s not much you can do when the baby comes a month of two prematurely and you’re in another country.

It's been restarted, a group commenced training early August. CAE ran the recruitment.

They're not accepting applications at the moment.

Maybe next year at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if talks have already begun with the training provider.

But continue on your path as if this cadetship didn't even exist, that way you'll be presently surprised if it opens... don't waste time holding out for anything in this industry, trust me.

Given the lead time between applications opening and course start dates, it's safe to assume that there will not be a JQ cadet intake for semester 1 2023.

Your advice is solid. Look elsewhere and take whatever opportunities come up in the meantime. Do not hold out for something that may not eventuate.
