What’s the chance that the fairing wasn’t secured (screws not tightened up) post maintenance inspection, certainly easy to overlook. If the aircraft was overstressed in flight, I’m sure the flight data recorder will tell the story.

How’s their R66 going?

Flight data recorder in a Kodiak ? That would cost more than the aircraft ?

I read that they have two more R-66 types planned for delivery.

Most of the Caravans have data recorders in them that pick up exceedances, even the old ones. So I’m sure the Kodiak would with the gear they got in them.

Sounds like a storm in a tea cup and the event isn’t even worth while mentioning on this forum, like most of the rubbish on here!

What happens in PNG stays in PNG!😀

I can think of a few events where I (and others I could name) are very thankful for that!:E:D

I have not heard of this aircraft type before. How does it compare to a C208?

You don't have google?

I doubt there is anyone in Australia who operated both types to provide a comparison.

As LB says, you’ll need a google search for that. And it’s good info.

I have operated both. Kodiak is superior in almost every way except payload and cabin size. For context though the Kodiak was designed well after the caravan and I believe the guy who designed the floats for the caravan had a hand in designing the Kodiak.

it’s an impressive aircraft if I had the choice for a private aircraft I would take a Kodiak any day. For commercial I probably would take the Caravan

He/she is probably after a bit of a chin wag with like minded people about an aircraft type, rather than the unsociable google search.

Banjo should direct his interest to the 209, a much better aircraft

I don't think the loss of a fairing qualifies as "structural damage" does it?

Peter Fanelli,
That said fairing striking the tailplane as it departed the scene though, does qualify as "structural damage".

More importantly the PNG AIC state that the aircraft suffered structural damage. It's their voice, in their country!

The bang of that fairing hitting the tailplane would've got your attention! You would not know what had happened or what was to follow.
