(NYSE:VTOL (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/bristow-group-to-acquire-british-international-helicopter-services-limited-further-enhancing-its-leading-government-services-offering-301536220.html#financial-modal)) today announced its plans to acquire British International Helicopter Services Limited ("BIH"), further enhancing its leading global Government Services business.

Bristow will continue to build upon BIH's strong relationships established through a longstanding history of serving both military and civilian markets. Bristow expects to realize efficiencies by leveraging its scale to continue providing safe and reliable vertical lift solutions in the region.

I’m glad my 33 years with BIH was not a total waste!
I have only been officially retired for 8 days, if only I was a month younger I would have at least received a farewell card from Bristow, unlike British International 😾
Good luck to my former colleagues, under new management it can’t possibly be worse!

I asked about this yesterday.
The response I got was that when the 189's have fallen in a heap the S61's will always get the job done!!!!!

Having flown the S61n for over 30 years (15,000hrs +), 23 years of which was ironically from day one on taking over the Falklands contract from Bristow on the 1st of July 1998. There is no helicopter better suited to the military support task. I have covered SAR when the 189 was down, albeit only in a MIR capacity, on numerous occasions. However on the rare occasions our “museum piece” S61 was u/s, there’s no way a 189 could take my load of 4000lbs of mixed freight and passengers to a peat bog field location!
Sensible helicopter to cover both SH & SAR in the Falklands is the S92, which Bristow already have.

There is no helicopter better suited to the military support task. I have covered SAR when the 189 was down, albeit only in a MIR capacity, on numerous occasions. However on the rare occasions our “museum piece” S61 was u/s, there’s no way a 189 could take my load of 4000lbs of mixed freight and passengers to a peat bog field location!
Sensible helicopter to cover both SH & SAR in the Falklands is the S92, which Bristow already have.


You can't beat steam gauges, keep going long after glass cockpits have gone into melt down.
Just looking at one of Leonardo's finest, one unit u/s for over a week and the other has a delivery date of May 26th (which year was the question).

What has been the overall serviceability for the roughly 6 years the 189 has been on FISAR duty? Is it ok for off airport landings etc? Are UKSAR airframes more or less the same serviceability wise? Or is it like the 169 where each company is under NDA when something goes wrong so the user group don’t realise similar faults have occurred before but nobody can tell.
