So.. my operator has published a briefing sheet for a circle:visual approach to land KIAD RWY30 . LOC approach to RWY 01R continuing with a visual to 30. I know of one other operator that has a RNAV visual approach (similar to the canarise) that works but I’m wondering what other airlines are doing.
I know it’s an approach that rarely happens but Murphy’s law and all that..
also what’s your company’s circling stabilisation gate? (All of airbuses docs recommend >400ft aal)
Thanks in advance.

I've never seen anyone land on 30 in my nearly 8 years of flying in and out of IAD. 30 was/is only used for departures.

Done it once, almost 20 years ago. CAVOK, rolled through to the end and that was that.

I did it last year, the 1R circle to 30 that is. Forty knots from the west and it worked out fine. I dont remember what the ceiling was but it wasn't an issue.

You are right it doesn't happen often.

During the last 36 hours, KIAD used runway 30 almost exclusively for departures and arrivals due to strong, gusty NW wind. Shifted back to the north runways about noon today. Stuffing all of the afternoon international arrivals onto a single runway made for some interesting traffic management. KIAD is eventually supposed to get a second crosswind runway.

The runway 30 visual option pops up about 4 or 5 times per year due to strong NW wind but the duration is usually less than 8 hours. The last couple of days were truly unusual for KIAD.
