Courses cp107 - cp110 will be starting training within the next few months. With cp107 starting by the end of march and cp110 starting around April. Why they are still training these guys when hk looks so f'ed up? Makes me wonder.

It's a case of Simple math..
With COS18 CX has found its no problem to recruit kids to become pilots.
(Please don't mention to management that actually the young ones will do it for free.)
However retaining actual pilots seems to be problematic...
So to make the future planned crew numbers work recruit and train they must!

Its pretty simple, LOCALS DON'T LEAVE! HK is their birthplace, they need to support parents in their older years. Ramp up the cadetship, localise the airline and you now have addressed turnover, same as all the other national carriers.
It's taken a few years but Swire have finally taken a leaf from SQ. Next they will have a new talent pool from north of the border, watch the CAD bow to pressure to recognise CAAC licences.

Yeah, but, locals can't be bothered with the cadetship. More money elsewhere in other HK jobs. A very small minority have any interest in aviation. Thanks in no small part to there being zero GA in HK for obvious reasons.
Hence the requirement for gweillos over the decades. And they would be mental to join CX and move to HK, and would probably not pass the HKCAD medical on mental health grounds if they did.
